Ha ha ha! Check this out, it is quite funny indeed! I suspected so all along...

Actually I don't believe it for a second - I believe that we may spend more time cooking than the French, but I am certain that they are better technically than we are; and also they may go out to restaurants more because the standard of cooking in their local eateries is probably much higher than a lot of the crap you'll find in a small-town, local British restaurant - unless you happen to live in Bray. Splendid, and amusing bit of propaganda though!

Sadly I must agree food in England has come on unbelievably in the past 10 years or so but don't think we're in much of a position to gloat just yet as it was a standing start in the dark ages - parts of middle England may be rediscovering their local butcher but the price of decent food is still out of reach for most people and culturally we are miles behind the French for general respect for a decent feed - saying that though could easily argue the higher end French restaurant scene has been resting on its laurels for too long and is very conservative - if you can pay for it there is some very exciting cooking going on in London restaurants at least - don't know about the rest of the country getting decent food outside of the major cities is still a very much fraut activity I think.
